Writer's Block: War and peace

Many countries require all citizens to fulfill a mandatory period of service in the armed forces. Do you agree or disagree with this policy? Do you think the current recruitment system creates or sustains socioeconomic inequality?

I think all citizens should perform some kind of public service. When my dad was stationed in Germany in the 80's they required all 18 year olds to enter into 2 years of service. Those who did not wish to go into the military where allowed to serve in civillian roles. I think this is a good thing. It teaches discipline and service to others. It also creates eqaulity, because EVERYONE has to serve not just those who need the oppurtunities that service can offer. The children of the rich and powerful serve right beside the middle class and poor and have an oppurtunity to see life from their POV.

If you had to choose between your friends and your significant other, who would you choose?

I would have to get rid of the one who insisted that I choose. I would not require my friends and my SO to be best buds, but I do expect them them to respect me enough to not play that card. I find it is them or me ultimatum's  to be very controlling and there is no way in hell that I am going to allow someone to control me like that. You ditch the SO or the friend and before you know it you will be ditching everything that they do not meet their approval.

Writer's Block: Licensed to Drive

I think 16 is a good starting age to let kids start driving, but there is no magic age. I know a couple of 20 somethings that I would not turn the keys over to. It is something that should be done by parents on a case by case basis. They know how responsible and mature their driving age teens are far better than anyone else. They should turn the keys over to their kids when they think they are ready. Some kids are ready at 16,some are not.
